Family Farm

Of course, a good crop starts
with good soil–dark, nutrient-filled
dirt. Most recommend
proper dunging. I mean cover
that field with a good layer
of manure, so much so
they know about it in the next
county. Pray for plenty
of rain. This is love and joy
for your roots. Weed out
the undesirable growth;
don’t let bad seed dropped
by fly-by-night birds mix
with your good. And with
more prayer and vigilant care–
that is, getting your hands
and knees dirty–
them stalks will shoot up
and shatter the clouds.
